Bordering on Crap

The Zombie Island of Doctor Ned was pretty frickin awesome. It took all the great stuff from Borderlands and added more character and humour which is what Borderlands needed.

Quick recap in case you don't know what Borderlands is all about. It's an FPSRPG of sorts. With emphasis on the FPS. And the shooting is great. It feels like a shooter. With loot. There are zillions of guns, some super duper crazy, most not. It has a sketch shaded look to it, which I love. The enemy variety is a bit lacking and the environments are fairly samey.

The zombie expansion added new enemies and new expansive environments.

Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot adds nothing. It reuses the environmental assets from Borderlands, it uses the same enemies, it recycles the bosses. It gets rid of the loot whoreing (which is the whole fucking point of Borderlands).

You have to fight wave after wave of enemies, all in a row and the final wave has enemies with a boss thrown in. After you clear the final wave, you have a few seconds to grab three guns. Three guns.

You've killed around a hundred dudes and your reward is three guns. I've hardly played the game but the guns I've picked up have not been anything great. I've hardly played the game because if you die during any of the waves you have to start the whole damn thing all over again. If you die on wave 5, you have to start over on wave 1.

My anger rises just thinking about it.

No new enemies, no new guns, no new settings, no humour, there is nothing to recommend this expansion pack. It makes me like Bordelands, as a whole, less.
