EA Blues
There are a couple of recent interesting notes to discuss about the beloved 3rd party EA.
EA started back in the early 1980's with a greatest hits release of legendary titles. MULE, Hard Hat Mack, Realm of Impossibility, Seven Cities of Gold, Project Firetstart (hell YEAH!!!!), Archon I and II. They also released the one title which became their unofficial start of the EA SPORTS line - One On One: Julius Erving and Larry Bird.
Man those games rocked! EA was such a kick ass comapny back in the Commodore 64 days. They brought over the European company Software Project's ambitious Dragon's Lair C64 ports here in "The Great White North". Oh yeah and the Dynamix produced Project Firestart, it was the begining of the whole "movie/videogame" thing. Damn that game rocked! It had cut scenes and this cool plot and multiple endings and story paths. It was Alien/Aliens in your control. Download this baby and emulate it now!
Today, EA is still cool. The Lord of The Rings titles rock. I love their aborted Snow Storm series. However, their titles lack the innovation of years past. We get sequel after sequel after big ass management decisions and brand management.

Cool ain't it? An intergalatic class-action lawsuit againt EA by pissed off employees, tired of getting kicked in the ass by the man. Yep, all them executives and management positions get their big phat Christmas bonus every year and the guys who work their asses off on the actual product get screwed over or layed off. I hate any company when I start to hear crap like this.
Back to innovation... EA just purchased "Exclusive NFL Rights" for Madden for the next 5 years. Bye-bye SEGA SPORTS/ESPN. This means they have everything exclusive from stadiums to teams to players for the next 5 years. This cost a rumoured billion dollars for EA to aquire.
Great. Nothing like killing the competition. You know competition inspires innovation. It's what great gaming is about. It's the whole DS/PSP coming war. As much as we like to praise whom we love and diss those we hate, it's the gamers who reap the benfits of competition cause that's when game companies start to shine. Price wars start. Great games from all companies get developed.
Great days, eh?
