Thoughts On The Wii
Tyler and I have been playing games for the most part of our lives. We own nearly every single console in existance. We've played different videogame genres, from the virtual pet to the action shooter to the sports genre. We agree, disagree and can come to understanding and pure WTF? With this knowledge, most of our friends and family come to us with advise on what games to purchase or what consoles to own. One thing Tyler and I can both agree on is that Nintendo makes the best games period. Their hardware is top notch but the games. Oh my... The games are phenominal.
The Wii launch details are exciting. The price is just right. I live in Canada and my guess estimate is that the console will retail for $289.99.
One of the biggest revelations is the whole Wii Channel aspect. Not only is an online store available for the purchase of Nintendo, Sega and other videogame classics but other exciting venues. Since the console is connected to the net 24/7, one has access to news and weather channels. You can view and send photos through the internet via SD cards. You'll be able to surf the internet on your television via the Opera Web Browser and send e-mails to any Wii, PC or cellphone user. It just makes the system much more attractive.
When Apple released the iPod, it was created and packaged as the best damned MP3 player on the market. Since then, the 5th generation units now offer video playback, photo viewing, organizer functions and now even play games ranging from Tetris to Pac-Man. It was awsome to see the main focus of the iPod expand into new areas but it's focus is consistant. it still is the best Mp3 player on the market.
Nintendo's direction is the same with the Wii. It is going to be the best videogame system on the market. It's hardware is streamlined for perfection. It's controller will deliver experiences that no other machine can replicate. Plus, it will let you do those additional things I just wrote about above. It's a system that will grow with the user.
The internet is a flood of hardcore gamers bitching about the price, the graphics and so forth. While the mainstream, the girl next door, your ma and pa, people who don't play games are excited about the console. I could babble on and on about how cool the Wii is gonna be but let the hardware speak for itself. Let the games speak for themselves. Hell, look at Nintendo's track record. That's all the proof you need when it comes to innovation on your next generation console purchase.
